New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices remained stable at the domestic level for the 83rd day in a row today ahead of Assembly elections in five states. Announced a reduction of Rs. 5 and 10.

Petrol and diesel prices depend on the price of crude oil in the international market, and oil companies announce domestic market prices on a daily basis. However, it seems that whenever elections come, petrol and diesel prices start falling automatically. This was seen during the Assembly elections in Bengal. Now, before the five state assembly elections, the central government had announced a reduction in excise duty, followed by a similar announcement by the states, after which prices have come down a bit. Couldn’t get relief accordingly.

In Singapore, Brent crude traded down 0.27 percent at 87 87.96 a barrel and US crude traded down 0.44 percent at 85 85.22 a barrel this morning. Most state governments and Union Territories have also reduced value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel when the Center reduced excise duty.

Petrol and diesel prices are reviewed on a daily basis and on this basis new prices are applicable daily from 6 am. Today, petrol and diesel prices in the country’s four major metros are as follows:

Metro – Petrol – Diesel (Rs. Per liter)

Delhi ………… .95.41 ………… .86.67

Kolkata ………… .104.67 ………… .89.79

Mumbai ………… .109.98 ………… .94.14

Chennai ………… .101.40 ………… .91.43
