Assembly elections Lucknow: Amid growing threat of new Corona variant Omicron in the country, Uttar Pradesh’s main opposition parties Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have asked the Electiion Commission to hold assembly elections in the state within the stipulated time. Elections are requested to be completed.
Led by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, the Central Election Commission (CEC) began its three-day visit to Lucknow yesterday with a meeting with various political parties at Yojana Bhawan. Other parties present at the meeting, including SP, BSP and Congress, unanimously asked the commission to hold electiions in the state on time.
Meowlal Gautam, RA Mittal and Jamil Akhtar, members of the BSP delegation, also presented a memorandum to the commission on behalf of the party, stating that “in a democracy, elections are like a festival. Democratic and constitutional tools give the common man the right to choose his representative. Therefore, the election process should be completed on time without any hindrance.
