Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the Punjab Assembly elections from Sangrur twice, making its MP Bhagwant Mann the face of the Chief Minister. The announcement was made by the party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here today. Thus, AAP has become the first party in the state to announce the face of its Chief Minister for the Assembly elections.
Kejriwal said the party had released a phone number last week asking people for their opinion on who should be the chief minister of the state. He said that in this survey more and more people expressed their opinion in favor of Bhagwant Mann. He said that more than 21.59 lakh messages and phone calls were received in this poll till Monday evening and 93.7% people named Bhagwant Mann. In other words, Bhagwant Mann will be the face of your Chief Minister. He claimed that AAP would form the government in the state and Bhagwant Mann would be the next chief minister of the state.
Kejriwal said that if he had announced the name of Mann himself, he would have been accused of forcibly imposing someone on the people as the Chief Minister. He said that in this survey some people were of the opinion that he or Kanwar Vijay Pratap Singh should be made the face of the Chief Minister.
On the other hand, Bhagwant Mann became emotional and shed tears when he was declared the face of the party’s chief minister. He said that he would fulfill the responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Punjab and the party. His dream is to bring back the colors of Punjab. It may be mentioned that Bhagwant Mann is currently an AAP MP from Sangrur and is going to contest Assembly elections from Dhori Assembly constituency of the same Lok Sabha constituency.
