American media reported on the arrest of Russian MMA fighter Akmal Khozhiev . The professional athlete was arrested November 7 by the Guam Island Police Department after allegedly stabbing a doctor over a controversy over coronavirus vaccinations.
According to the witness, Khozhiev and Dr. Miran Ribati , a radiologist at the Guam Memorial Hospital, had an altercation in an apartment building. An eyewitness said that a verbal quarrel developed into a physical one when Khozhiev began to strangle Ribati and hit him in the throat with an animal bone. Then the fighter allegedly took out a knife and finished off the doctor.
Police arrived at the scene, where they reportedly found Ribati facedown in a pool of her own blood. “Sir, it’s me, it’s me, I killed him ,” Khozhiev allegedly told the police.
Khozhiev, 27, was charged with aggravated murder with the use of knives. The court believes that Khozhiev can be released on a million dollar bail.
JJ Ambrose , an MMA veteran who fought at Bellator, previously hired Khozhiev at the Steel Athletics in Tamuning and said he was not surprised to hear of the violent clash. Ribati, like Khozhiev, trained in the gym for years.
“Ribati was a good man until he was gone. We did our best to prevent this from happening, but … It is very difficult to be friends with two people if these two are not themselves, and you do not want to take sides. Khozhiev needed psychological help. “
In a statement to Pacific Daily News, Guam Memorial Hospital praised Ribati for his dedication and skill as a doctor.
“It is with a heavy, shocked and saddened heart that Guam Memorial Hospital announces the passing of one of their respected doctors, Dr. Miran Ribati. Dr. Ribati has been an interventional radiologist at GMHA, serving the community for over three years. His talents were undeniable and flawless; his passion was unmatched; he was praised by his patients. He will be sorely missed by colleagues, staff and the entire medical community in Guam. ”
The hearing in the Khozhiev case will take place on December 19.
