Srinagar, Dec 8 (IANS) Security forces and militants exchanged fire in the Chek Chholand area of Shopian hill district in Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said. As soon as the security personnel laid siege to the village on Wednesday morning, the militants started firing indiscriminately at the forces.
He said that the security forces also took position and started retaliation during which the exchange of fire continued for several minutes.
A senior police official said forces had cordoned off a wide area and set up patrols on all escape routes.
He said that there may be two to three militants in the area, in view of which additional reinforcements have also been deployed in the surrounding areas.
The operation was going on in the area till the last information was received.
