The new delta variant of the Covid-19 is on the rise in the US, and it is quickly converting into the dominant strain in the States. The concerns over the variant affecting the vulnerable communities are rising.
Nearly 10 percent of all infections in the United States are attributed to this variant, also known as the B.1.617.2 variant. This ratio doubles every two weeks, says Scott Gottlieb, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, in a CBS interview.
Although this strain is making its way to becoming the dominant variant, that does not explicitly mean that the country will see a surge in cases. The US has currently administered more than 309 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, but some specific regions still seem to be at risk of contracting the virus.
Gottlieb said, ” I think the parts of the country which have seen less Covid-19 vaccinations, are more likely to be affected like parts of the South, where vaccination rates are very low.”
According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 64.4 percent of adults of the America have had at least one vaccine shot, but some states still see lower rates of vaccination. Less than half of adults of states like Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Wyoming have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine’s two doses.
The Delta variant can be deadly for states with lower numbers of vaccinations as this variant is significantly fast in its transfer compared to its predecessor, Gottlieb said. Still, there is a glimmer of faith that vaccines are effective against this deadly virus. According to Gottlieb, they have all the necessary tools, and that can help defeat the virus.
But experts report says that heart inflammation is found in the younger generation due to behavioral changes. Especially males suffer from various heart conditions and ailments after receiving their second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines.
The younger generation who have received their vaccine jabs often go out and enjoy themselves. They tend to be carefree after vaccination. By roaming here and there, they are in contact with various other viruses. They are different kinds of viruses emerging day by day, and this virus causes pericarditis.
Respiratory syncytial virus, enterovirus, echoviruses, and coxsackie viruses can also lead to other infections and ailments. According to Gottlieb, experts are observing these behavioral changes more frequently. These changes will determine the effect of vaccines and will help in alerting other young people.
