Kazakhstan: More than 3,500 people detained for spreading unrest

Nur Sultan: More than 3,500 people have been detained in connection with the unrest in the Kazakh city of Shamkant. Local media quoted Erli Zumakhan Beitov, head of the city’s commandant’s office, as saying.

Earlier, local officials reported that 2,700 people had been detained during anti-violence protests in the city and 45 policemen had been injured.

He said that the situation in Shamkant city was under control. A total of 3,520 people have been detained since the violence and unrest in the city. So far 366 citizens have been held accountable. Of these, 271 were decided, 40 were fined and 55 were given warnings.
