Finland may build the first section of the “pilot” fence on the border with Russia by spring. A section of the fence with cameras will cost the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic 6 million euros if the costs are included in the budget.
According to the Finnish media on October 5, a short experimental section of the fence is to be built in Southeast Finland. The project includes not only a fence, but also a path running along it and technical supervision. Its construction is scheduled to begin this year.
The purpose of the pilot project is to study border fence construction technologies and gain experience in security technologies. In addition, in the process, a scheme will be tested for a possible redemption from landowners of land plots that are in the way of the fence.
Finland has closed the entry from Russia for tourists since September 30, and the Finns are harshly deploying and depriving Russians of visas right at the border. In this regard, Suomi fears an increase in the number of illegal migrants – a group of four people was detained in the forest at the end of September.
