General Rawat’s helicopter crashes in Kanwar, killing 13

New Delhi, December 8 An Air Force helicopter carrying Defense Chief General Bipin Rawat, his wife and some other military officials crashed in Kannur area of ​​Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu today, carrying 14 people, of whom only one survived.

Nilegary District Collector SP Amrit told UNI that only one person on board the helicopter survived. There is still uncertainty about General Rawat’s security. The wreckage of the helicopter was completely burnt to ashes in the accident.

Mr Amrit did not elaborate further on the incident. He is overseeing the rescue and relief operations on the spot.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the incident and briefed him on the incident. Earlier, Army Chief MM Nirvana met Mr Singh at his office in the South Block and gave details of General Rawat’s helicopter crash. Mr Singh and General Nirvana also visited General Rawat’s official residence in the capital.

The defense minister is due to make a statement in parliament on Thursday.

He met with senior defense officials after the incident.
