Generation change: Semenenko, Kondratyuk and Ignatov won the short in the CR

Semenenko : The Russian figure skating championship has opened in St. Petersburg: men with short programs were the first to enter the Yubileiny ice. Singles in Russia are very unpredictable, so it is not clear until recently which of the ten applicants will go to the 2022 Olympics. And after the first day of competition at the national championship, the situation with the distribution of tickets became even more confused. MK-Sport has summed up the results of the short program for men in the Chechen Republic. [Semenenko]

The Russian Figure Skating Championship in St. Petersburg literally began with bloodshed: Alexander Samarin , who opened the tournament, unsuccessfully fell from a quadruple flip. For a moment it seemed that the skater was injured and would not be able to continue the performance, but no. The student of Svetlana Sokolovskaya skated the program to the end, albeit with blood on his chin – Alexander was saved from failure by a cascade of a quadruple lutz-triple toe loop and a triple axel.

In general, Samarin made a good bid for the Olympic team. And it’s not about the status of a skater who has been at the top of Russian men’s skating for many years. As Alexander correctly noted, answering the question about good points (94.23), despite the fall, “Why be surprised? Who else jumped lutz? “

Indeed, in the short program, singles did not take particular risks with cascades: mostly they were quad sheepskin coats in conjunction with triple sheepskin coats. One of those who left the comfort zone was Mikhail Kolyada . Stability in performances has long been expected from the skater: this season there has not yet been a single clean skate, and the Russian championship was no exception. A student of Alexei Mishin performed a cascade of a quadruple salchow-triple sheepskin coat, a quadruple sheepskin coat, but made a butterfly on a triple axel. It was impossible to hide the disappointment of the coach, figure skater and competition commentator Alexei Yagudin :

“I don’t know how to comment on this rental, there’s just no words, I don’t want to scold or admire. I had such a thought that he would make a triple axel, and I would stand to applaud him. No, it didn’t happen. A person has everything, well, the most wonderful program, the most wonderful skating skills and a sense of rhythm. “

As the commentators of the Russian championship noted, a generational change is taking place in the schools of Mishin, Sokolovskaya and Yevgeny Rukavitsyn . Instead of 26-year-old Kolyada, Yevgeny Semenenko , another contender for a trip to Beijing 2022, takes the leading position . The skater became the winner of the short program with a cascade of quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop, quadruple salchow and axel in three and a half turns.

“A dream for this Russian championship? I won’t say it – it won’t come true, ”Semenenko said after his speech.

And they dream about one thing at this tournament – to qualify for the 2022 Olympics. And it seems that this opportunity eludes Dmitry Aliyev. The reigning European champion did not hide his disappointment after the skate, and swore right at the side: “I feel – I am drawn. Either all, or part – hell knows. ” There really was something to scold myself for: starting with a good cascade of 3-4 sheepskin coats spoiled the breakdown of the quadruple lutz (it turned out only triple) and the “butterfly” on the axel. As a result, Aliyev is only 12th, and it will be difficult for Dmitry to improve his position with such rivals in the free program.

As in the pair Semenenko-Kolyada from Mishin’s group, Makar Ignatov , not Aliev, shone in the short program of the Chechen Republic with Rukavitsyn . The almost two-meter skater surprised with unusual spins and technical jumps. To take a place above the third was prevented by a defect in the cascade of a quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop (step-out). But above all praise, the signature quadruple rittberger and triple axel were performed. In the free program, Ignatov should only add, because a month earlier he entered the history of figure skating in Russia, having cleanly performed four quads at the international start.[Semenenko]

Between Semenenko and Ignatov, in second place is Mark Kondratyuk , another talented (and young) skater who claims to be in the 2022 Olympics – especially since the third quota of men’s singles skating in Russia in Beijing is entirely the merit of a student of Svetlana Sokolovskaya : in October he took third place in the qualifying tournament in Germany.

In the short program of the Czech Republic, Kondratyuk made a quadruple toe loop, a triple axel, as well as a cascade of a quadruple salchow-double toe loop in the second half of the program. Failure of the triple toe loop in a cascade cost Kondratyuk the victory – the skater did not reach only 0.26 points before Semenenko’s assessment.

In general, Russian skaters in short programs have proved that they can do more than just fall. Even Yagudin, from whom you rarely get compliments to the singles, was surprised how the skaters managed to get together before the responsible start. Everyone wants to go to the Olympics, and who deserves it more will become known based on the results of the free program, which will take place on Friday, December 24.
