Tuktamysheva : Nothing is left until the most intriguing figure skating competition of the year, and all fans of this sport are looking forward to the struggle for the 2022 Olympics. In addition to the distribution of places in the Russian championship, the tournament in St. Petersburg will bump heads against different generations and techniques. MK-Sport will tell about duels in women’s single skating at the Russian Championship.
On December 23, the Russian Figure Skating Championship starts in St. Petersburg, which will answer many questions. Firstly, it will determine the best figure skaters in the country, and secondly, it will distribute tickets to the 2022 Olympics. The most exciting start will be for women, where for the first time in many years there is such fierce competition – several skaters are claiming first place at once, and even those from whom this is least expected.
Three juniors will make their debut at the adult championship of Russia: Sofya Samodelkina, Adelia Petrosyan and Sofya Muravyova . 14-year-old figure skaters will not apply for Olympic tickets this season, but they can spoil the mood of candidates for the national team.
The outsider in this trinity is Samodelkina, in whose arsenal there is only a triple axel. But Elizaveta Tuktamysheva also has it , for whom one ultra-si element in the program has never been an obstacle to winning medals. In the fall of 2021, Samodelkina became the fifteenth woman to jump with a triple axel at an international tournament.
This season was a real breakthrough for Muravyova, who seriously threatens the victorious ambitions of her senior colleagues. The figure skater Evgeni Plushenko has a triple axel and a quadruple salchow, and several more victories this year at the junior level.
Petrosyan became the only one of the 14-year-old students of Eteri Tutberidze , admitted to the Russian championship. And Adelia in St. Petersburg can surprise – this season she has already performed a quadruple flip and a quadruple rittberger.
But nevertheless, the judges at the Russian championship are unlikely to be supportive of the juniors, because the main struggle will unfold between five skaters: Alexandra Trusova, Kamila Valieva, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Anna Shcherbakova and Maya Khromykh . Most likely, these athletes will take the top 5 in the final standings of the Czech Republic, but in what sequence it remains an intrigue.
And yet, everyone puts Valieva in first place, breaking incredible records this season: the 15-year-old figure skater at the Grand Prix stages repeatedly updated world records in points for programs and their sum.
All would be fine, but Valieva this season did not have to face at one competition with another quadista from the Russian national team – Trusova. Russkaya Raketa missed two months due to a broken foot, but it should be in optimal shape for the tournament in St. Petersburg. This will be the first test of Trusova and Valieva for strength – they are called the main candidates for the Russian Olympic team, and at the national championship they will probably count the number of quadruple jumps from both. Another duel in the Chechen Republic should be the struggle between Shcherbakova and Tuktamysheva for the title of the main symbol of femininity in Russian figure skating. Elizabeth, of course, is beyond competition, but Anna also began to manage to use her strength in competitions.
Short programs at the Russian Championship will be shown by women on December 24, free programs on December 25. [Tuktamysheva]
