Kolyada : The European Figure Skating Championships will take place this week and will be the final test of the skaters ahead of the 2022 Olympics. The tournament in Tallinn will be held without the participation of Mikhail Kolyada, who injured his foot – skater Andrei Mozalev will replace the figure skater, for whom a trip to the European Championship may become decisive for getting into the Olympic team. MK-Sport will tell you how Kolyada’s non-participation in the European championship can affect the composition of the Russian team in Beijing.

The Russian Figure Skating Championship died down at the end of December, but they discussed (and will continue to discuss) it long after its end. The Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) immediately after the national championship published the composition of the team for the European Championship, scheduled in Tallinn (Estonia) on January 10-16, – the names of the skaters, or rather the absence of some, caused outrage among fans and experts.

First of all, in men’s single skating – Mark Kondratyuk, Mikhail Kolyada and Evgeny Semenenko entered the European Championship . The latter, contrary to the competitive logic, got into the squad, finishing fourth in the national championship, and the bronze medalist of the tournament, Andrei Mozalev, was out of work. The FFKKR explained this by the fact that Semenenko during the season was more stable than Mozalev, but now Andrei had the opportunity not only to compete for medals in the European championship, but also to get into the Olympic team.

Three things to know about Jason Brown in the US Figure Skating Championships

Because Kolyada withdrew from the European Championship a few days before it began. The 26-year-old skater received a minor foot injury during training, after which, according to experts, it will take no more than a week to recover. Whether this is so, it will become known on the eve of the 2022 Olympics, where Kolyada may not even go in the best condition in view of his authority in the international arena.

Experts unanimously say that they are counting on a student of Alexei Mishin in Beijing. FFKKR general director Alexander Kogan assured that “there are no fears about Kolyada’s participation in the Olympics”, and the choreographer Ilya Averbukh lamented that “Mikhail will not be able to win the title of European champion.” There is not even talk about the fact that at the European championship Mozalev can take away from Kolyada a ticket to Beijing-2022.

“It’s a pity that Kolyada is injured. But I am very glad that the national team will be represented by Mozalev, ” Tatiana Tarasova briefly summed up , quoted by the Championship.

Recall that in the fall, Kondratyuk won the third quota for the Games-2022 for the Russian men’s team. And in our country, for the first time in many years, several skaters are competing for a place in the Olympic team – this is perhaps the only discipline with which the FFKKR may have problems. Because in addition to Kolyada and Kondratyuk, who won tickets to the national championship, Dmitry Aliyev and Alexander Samarin are claiming a place in Beijing – yes, both are unstable in the season, but which Russian singles skater can boast of stability in the Olympic season?

The third quota may well be given by Semenenko – the FFKKR’s trust in Mishin’s student is not without reason: he showed himself quite well last year and 100% deserved his place in the Olympic team … Like Mozalev, with whom Semenenko will have to compete for medals of the European Championship. This fight can be decisive when choosing an Olympic squad.
