A new national champion has appeared in the men’s single skating in Russia. Mark Kondratyuk, who won the country’s third ticket to the 2022 Olympics, took the chance to go to Beijing. Mikhail Kolyada and Andrey Mozalev were beaten in a brilliant style in St. Petersburg. MK-Sport has summed up the results of the men’s competition in the Chechen Republic.
Mark Kondratyuk is noticeably different from his rivals: energy and speed are her main strong points. It was they who kept the audience in suspense during the free program to the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar”, and after the end of the number, the hall exploded. It was not without mistakes in jumping, as well as intrigue in the “kiss and edge” zone.
Slightly less than a point Kondratyuk was ahead of Mikhail Kolyada , thereby depriving him of the status of a four-time champion of the country.
Of course, Kolyada deprived himself of it after the short program. Having made a mistake there, the 26-year-old skater, even with a good performance in the free program, could only count on the failure of his rivals. Kolyada decided to play with his trump cards, therefore, on the eve of the start in St. Petersburg, he returned last year’s free program “White Raven”, and the Russian audience liked the move, as did the judges.
In the first half of the program, Mikhail jumped a quadruple salchow, a cascade of a quadruple sheepskin coat – a triple sheepskin coat, a triple axel, a triple rittberger. In the second half – a triple toe loop (instead of a quadruple), a triple axel – a double toe loop, a triple lutz – oiler – a double salchow (instead of a triple).
As in good films, the winner of the Russian championship was determined in the last minutes. The leader after the short program, Evgeny Semenenko, remained outside the top-3, and the bronze of the national championship was sensationally won by Andrey Mozalev , who plays in the second strongest warm-up group. Andrey won his bronze: in the free free routine he performed three quadruple jumps and a triple axel, falling only on the second trixel.
“This is not the rental of life, I fell, which means that it is no longer the best rental. If I get to the Olympics, I won’t complicate things. If not, then I’ll complicate it. Physics problems? No, the cough doesn’t matter here, I don’t know where it comes from. I think I did everything I could, we’ll see further. Additional rentals? I’m ready for anything , ”said Mozalev after the rental.
Makar Ignatov , the silver medalist of the last year’s national championship, presented his claims to the podium in the Chechen Republic . But there were a lot of mistakes in the free program, which left him in 10th place in terms of the sum of two skates. One position higher is Dmitry Aliev , who was never able to regain its former shape, and it seems that he lost his chances for an Olympic ticket. Like Alexander Samarin , who took sixth place in the Czech Republic.
“Tears are rolling, to be honest. I don’t know what the season was, I’m very sorry that it happened. So everything has changed, it has become different. I repeat, if you rely on yesterday’s words, this kind of skating is unexpected for me. During the preparation for the Russian Championship, I changed a lot, brought confidence to my body. It’s a shame that not only I suffer from this, but the whole team, which put all their efforts into it. And I didn’t justify it all , ”Aliyev said after the screening.
One way or another, there are now new faces and heroes in men’s single skating. Aliyev was replaced by Ignatov, Samarin – by Kondratyuk. True, this does not make the Figure Skating Federation any easier with the definition of the Olympic team.
