Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev defeated Australian Nick Kiryos (7:6, 6:4, 4:6, 6:2) and reached the third round of the Australian Open. We predicted that the game of the two best trolls on the court could become legendary, and that is how it will be remembered. MK-Sport tells the details.

We expected to see the show, we got it. These two definitely know how to make tennis fun, but this time it was important for Daniil Medvedev not to follow the lead of Nick Kiryos , but to focus on himself.

When both were younger, in meetings against each other, they did what they wanted. Even the ATP warned before the match that anything could happen in the match between these two. And published a selection of their past meetings. Both, by the way, Danya lost.

But that was when! Back in 2019. Now Medvedev is the second racket of the world, and Nick has dropped below the first hundred. Which, however, does not mean at all that he plays at a level below the first hundred. If Kyrgios wants to, he can play like a top 20 tennis player. With his mind-blowing serve and the ability to confuse the opponent and bring him down with his ragged rhythm.

He, by the way, in the match against Medvedev sometimes succeeded. And in the third set, the Australian caught such courage that he even managed to take away one game from the Russian.

But Daniel did not agree to more. “It was a great serving match for both me and Nick. I knew I needed to take it better. And in the second and fourth sets, I did it better than in the first and third. The most important thing is that it happened at key moments,” Medvedev said in an interview on the court.

Usually Medvedev loves when the public cheers against him. He says that in this way people give him energy for victories. This time, he complained about the Melbourne fans who vehemently supported their compatriot: “When you get booed between the first and second serve, it’s unpleasant. But you have to be able to deal with it, and I did it.” At that moment, the audience screamed loudly again and he asked to respect the host on the court and let him ask questions, because he did not hear them. “In general, it’s frustrating when people make sounds between the first and second serve. I think some people just have a low IQ.”

Thanks to Kiryos’ tricks, Medvedev’s cunning shots, the courage of one and the composure of the other, this match is sure to go down in AO history. In the meantime, Daniel has two days to rest. He will play the third round on Saturday, January 22, against the Dutchman Botik van de Zandschulp.

And about other results of the second round. In the men’s no-loss draw: Aslan Karatsev defeated Mackenzie McDonald and will play Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the third round . Karen Khachanov will meet with Rafael Nadal himself . Andrei Rublev defeated the Lithuanian Richardas Berankis in three sets , and meet with Marin Cilic.

In the women’s bracket, Veronika Kudermetova, Daria Kasatkina, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova advanced to the third round.
