“MK-sport” finishes summing up the results of the season-2021 for the teams of “Formula-1”. Next in line is the winner of the Mercedes Constructors’ Cup. For the first time in the past eight years, the individual title has moved away from the “silver arrows”, but it has managed to renew the record for team titles. Now there are eight in a row.
In 2020, Mercedes took both titles again, and the car was so effective on all types of tracks that it was already problematic to significantly modify it.
Just before the 2021 season, “FIA” decided to slightly weaken the leader of last season by changing the design of the bottom. Teams with low rake, ie Aston Martin and Mercedes, suffered the most. Not a trace remained of the former advantage of the German team.
“Silver Arrows” started the season in the status of the first-second team of the championship. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen alternately exchanged victories. This was until the Monaco Grand Prix, after which the leader of the “Red Bull” came out ahead.
“Mercedes” in the first half of the season gradually lagged behind the competitor in terms of the efficiency of the car until it brought car updates to the British Grand Prix. We have repeatedly talked about the events of that race, so we will not repeat ourselves. Let’s just say that Hamilton won the race, after which “Mercedes” gradually seized the initiative.
To the credit of their rivals, the “bulls” still managed to more or less maintain the balance of power and not allow rivals to get ahead for a long time. The middle of the season was marked by a massive arms race. Both teams, in fact, sacrificed time to develop next year’s car, so as not to miss out on victory in the 2021 season. Mercedes also began experimenting with the motor to gain an additional speed advantage.
Basically, all the modifications were driven in by Valtteri Bottas , who this time was in the shadow of his eminent partner. It is logical that the Finn did not have much motivation. And where does it come from if the team simply sacrifices you. As a result, Valtteri fled to Alfa Romeo, signing a combat racer contract starting in the 2022 season.
Experiments with the engine have borne fruit. Towards the end of the season, Hamilton, who was slightly inferior in points to Verstappen, began using one motor for three races, which helped him win three victories in a row. For the final race in Abu Dhabi, both contenders for the title approached with an equal number of points. And then, thanks to all the well-known events, Hamilton lost the battle to Max on the very last lap of the race and for the first time since 2016 did not take the individual title.
The only consolation for “Mercedes” was winning the Constructors’ Cup for the eighth in a row, but the bitterness from the defeat in the pilot’s standings was great. The team did not even show up for the prize-giving ceremony (which may still be subject to sanctions). Hamilton, on the other hand, unsubscribed from everyone on Instagram and did not give a single interview after the final race of the season. This is not the first time this has happened to him. It’s safe to say that Lewis will return and be even stronger than ever.
The goals for the 2022 season are titles. “Mercedes” taught us long ago that they find a way out in any situation. Even in spite of the fact that not all efforts were thrown into the design of a new car, the engineers have enough experience and knowledge to roll out a car full of innovations and interesting solutions for the February tests.
