Russia can cut off the Baltic republics from other NATO countries in just two hours. This option is feared both in Kiev and in the alliance itself, reports The Times.
The interlocutors of the British edition said that the Kremlin could allegedly use migrants from the Middle East, who have accumulated in the west of Belarus, sending them to the Suwalki corridor.
It, in turn, is the only common land border between the Baltic states and other NATO members. At the same time, a scenario is described that the illegal immigrants will allegedly arrange riots in the corridor, and the Russian military will be sent to pacify them.
In this case, Russia, according to the newspaper, will be able to join forces in the Kaliningrad region with the Belarusian troops. At the same time, according to the Ukrainian side, it would take Moscow only two hours to seize the corridor.
Earlier, Western media have repeatedly reported that Moscow is allegedly preparing an invasion of Ukraine. The publications say that the operation could begin in the coming months.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that all such reports are speculation, aggravating the situation in the region.
In particular, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that speculation on this topic is unacceptable hysteria.
