Mumbai: NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik has accused BJP leaders of usurping temple lands across the country and doing the same in Maharashtra after Ayodhya. Nawab Malik said that the BJP leaders had resorted to soliciting votes in the name of Ram, collecting donations and seizing temple lands in Maharashtra. He said that BJP’s game of looting in the name of Ram is now coming before the people.

According to media reports, after clearing the way for construction of Ram temple at Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, the entire area has become a center for buying and selling land. According to the latest reports, large tracts of land have been purchased by BJP MLAs, several senior leaders, UP officials and their families around the Ram Mandir under construction to benefit them.

According to the Indian Express, an investigation into 14 cases of large-scale sale and purchase of land in the vicinity of the temple under construction has revealed that within a radius of 5 km from the Ram temple site, a Member of Assembly, Mayor and State A member of the OBC Commission has bought land in his own name.

In addition, relatives of the Divisional Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Circle Officer and State Information Commissioner have also purchased lands. In at least five of these cases, conflicts of interest arise. [Nawab Malik]
