New York State Governor Kathleen Hawkul took the oath of office. She became the first woman to hold this post. This was reported by The New York Times.Hawkul previously served as lieutenant governor of the state. She took the oath just after midnight local time after the deadline in which her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, stepped down.
Hockul will publicly take the oath of office on Tuesday morning. The ceremony will take place in the building of the city hall at 10 o’clock local time.Previous Governor Andrew Cuomo has held this position since 2010. He was forced to resign due to allegations of sexual harassment.

Kathleen Hawkul has been involved in politics since the 1980s. In 2011, she was elected to the US House of Representatives. In 2015, Hawkul was named Lieutenant Governor of New York State. In this position, she has campaigned against drugs and sexism.
