Tea is one of the favorite hot drinks among Russians. It is rich in nutrients, tones up and helps to keep warm. But its abuse can have serious consequences that many are unaware of.

Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg told Ridus about the potential harm of tea . The specialist advised that an acceptable dose of tea is about four cups a day. Ginzburg noted that this drink is “difficult to overdose,” however, too large volumes of tea drunk can lead to problems.

Excessive intake of the theine in tea can lead to bone loss and osteoporosis, according to the nutritionist. At the same time, Ginsburg added that the risk increases only when more than ten cups of the drink are consumed per day.

In addition, the expert said that tannins in tea can interfere with the normal absorption of zinc, iron and other trace elements. According to Ginzburg, “no one considered this to be topical.” But in case of danger of a violation of the absorption of these microelements, the use of tea should be limited, or add mineral supplements with them to the diet.

In conclusion, Ginzburg said that a large volume of the drink drunk can negatively affect the well-being of people with high blood pressure. However, according to the expert, there are not so many problems with tea, and from a medical point of view, tea bags are no worse than leaf tea.
