New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices today remained high for the 45th consecutive day in the country, despite the easing of international crude oil prices.
Petrol prices were reduced by about Rs 8 per liter in Delhi on December 2 due to reduction in VAT and since then petrol in Delhi has remained stable at Rs 95.41 per liter and diesel at Rs 86.67 per liter. Today in London, London Brent crude traded up 1.87% at 74 74.51 a barrel and US crude traded up 1.04% at .6 71.61 a barrel.
The reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per liter, respectively, had brought down its prices in the country. Subsequently, 22 states of the country, including Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, and the Centrally Administered Territories, reduced the value added tax (VAT) on these two products.
The price of petrool and diesel in the domestic market remained unchanged on the 45th day. The price of petrol at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) pumps remained at Rs 95.41 per liter and diesel at Rs 86.67 per liter due to reduction in VAT in the capital.
Petrol and diesel prices are reviewed on a daily basis and on this basis new prices are applied daily from 6 am. Today, petrol and diesel prices in the country’s four major metros remain the same.
