New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the government to legally bind the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers. The second request to make should be accepted.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s announcement to withdraw the Agriculture Act, Varun Gandhi wrote in his letter on Saturday that accepting the second demand of the farmers would provide a huge economic boost to the farmers. He demanded a fair investigation into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and stern action against the accused Union Minister.
In the letter, Varun Gandhi wrote that the farmers of the country continued their movement peacefully despite heavy rains, storms and bad weather. Farmers should be congratulated for this. He wrote that if the decision to withdraw agricultural laws had been taken in due course, the lives of 700 farmers who had lost their lives due to this movement could have been saved.
The BJP MP also demanded compensation of Rs 10 million each for all the 700 farmers killed in the farmers’ protest so that the families of the victims could lead their lives easily. It should be noted that while supporting the farmers’ movement and the demands of the farmers, Varun Gandhi has raised his voice against his own government on this issue many times in the past.
