Rahul Gandhi’s reaction New Delhi: The torch of Amar Jyoti installed at India Gate in Delhi is being extinguished forever. The government has argued that the torch is becoming harder to maintain, so it will be merged with the torch lit at the National War Memorial. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has objected to this. Rahul Gandhi has said that some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice.
According to media reports, Army officials said that Amar Jawan Jyoti will be integrated into the torch burning at the National War Memorial on Friday afternoon, which is just 400 meters away from India Gate. The National War Memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 25, 2019, where the names of 25942 soldiers are inscribed in gold.
Reacting to the extinguishing of Amar Jawan Jyoti’s torch, Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “It is very sad that the immortal Jyoti that was burning for our brave soldiers will be extinguished today. Some people do not understand patriotism and sacrifice. No matter, we will light the Immortal Jyoti once again for our troops. “
It may be recalled that India Gate was built by the British government in memory of the Indian soldiers who were martyred in the First World War. Then in 1972, the torch of Amar Jawan Jyoti was lit in memory of the Indian soldiers who were martyred in the war with Pakistan in 1971. In this war India was victorious and Bangladesh came into existence. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on January 26, 1972.
