All possible rivals of Russia in the World Cup 2022 play-offs have been identified

An overview of the sporting events in the world of sports that have taken place in the last 12 hours.

Football

The qualification for the World Cup in Qatar-2022 is over, and our long-suffering team has learned all the potential rivals that may come across it in the play-offs by the will of the draw on November 26.

Of the ten teams that Valery Karpin’s team can face (unless, of course, he leaves ), Italy and Portugal will be the most dangerous. But if suddenly (let’s spit, perhaps over the left shoulder) in the semifinals of the butt playoffs, the reigning European champions or Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portuguese friends deprive our team of a trip to the world championship, the strength of our opponents will not save our players from the wrath of the famous figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova … And Valery Karpin will receive another batch of criticism from the fans.

The full list of our potential rivals looks like this: Scotland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Austria, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Wales, Italy, Turkey.

The national team of Ukraine, which has never lost in the selection (six times in a draw and twice won), also took second place in the group, but according to the regulations, our national teams will not be able to meet in the semifinals – they will be separated during the draw.

And here are ten lucky ticket holders to Qatar, who took first places in their groups after 10 rounds: Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, France, Croatia, Germany, England, the Netherlands.

Tennis

At the Final Tournament in Turin, Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev reached the semifinals ahead of schedule. The victory over Alexander Zverev (as it was, read here ) and the removal of the Italian Matteo Berrettini from the competition helped .

Matteo was injured during the first round match with Zverev and could not finish the game. Until the very end, it was not clear whether the tennis player would be able to recover and continue the fight for the title. The ATP press service optimistically posted videos in which Matteo trains and seems to be in the mood for the best. However, shortly before his meeting with Hubert Gurkach, it was officially announced that Berrettini was leaving the tournament. In the net he was replaced by another Italian – Yannick Sinner , who defeated Hubert Gurkach in the first meeting (6: 2, 6: 2).

On Wednesday, there will be two matches of another, Green, group, in which, for the first time in his career, another Russian, Andrei Rublev, will meet with the first racket of the world, Novak Djokovic . And later Stefanos Tsitsipas and Kasper Ruud will appear on the court .

Hockey

Today is not the best day for Russian hockey players in the NHL. Alexander Ovechkin did not score, although our captain has another achievement: he played the 1213th match of his career in the NHL and moved up to 109th place in the league by this indicator, surpassing the result of the retired Vincent Lecavalier . The next target for is the result of Claude Lemieux (1215), she will be beaten soon (let’s spit it again, we have the Olympics soon, by the end).

Well, Ilya Sorokin , the Islanders goalkeeper, was generally taken out of the gate out of harm’s way. In the match with the Florida Panthers, he was “shot”, and who was not too lazy: he conceded four goals. And the team hoped for him so much!

As a result, he was replaced by another Russian – Semyon Varlamov, but he also did not become the star of the day. The Islanders ended in a 1-6 defeat.

What to watch on November 17:

TENNIS. At 16:00 Andrei Rublev will meet with Novak Djokovic at the Final Tournament in Turin and will try to surprise him, as well as take another step towards the title, which Andrei has not yet had more important.

BASKETBALL: At 23:00 CSKA will play Barcelona away in the Euroleague. CSKA after five defeats in a row , which did not happen for 20 years, and the emotional statements of head coach Dimitris Itoudis, was able to rehabilitate in the last round of the Euroleague, beating “Maccabi”. Now they will try to consolidate their success and be tested by the Catalans.
