Children’s Ombudsman in Moscow Olga Yaroslavskaya came up with an initiative to grant Russian men the right to take maternity leave to care for a child at the same time as their mothers.
This ombudsman said during the Moscow Interregional Forum “paternity Culture – rights and responsibilities in the family and society”, reports RIA ” Novosti ” .
Yaroslavskaya recalled that according to the current legislation, men have the right to go on maternity leave, but only instead of mothers.
“Why don’t we consider this option to give dad a maternity leave together with mom for at least two weeks,” she suggested.
Earlier, the Russian government approved a bill that expands the rights of men not to receive maternity capital. Men who raise children from surrogate mothers will be able to apply for it, in particular.
True, it will be possible to use the payment only if the man is married and his wife has adopted children.
The decision was a consequence of the decision of the Constitutional Court, which sided with the Russian, who was denied the provision of maternity capital on the grounds that he is raising two daughters, whom a surrogate mother gave birth to. Moreover, after the birth of children, the man got married, and his wife officially adopted them.
