Mark Kondratyuk, Mikhail Kolyada, Evgeny Semenenko are going to compete at the European Championship. The first two figure skaters – as the winner and medalist of the Russian championship, the third – by the decision of the coaching council. In reserve – Andrey Mozalev, (bronze medalist of the national selection), Peter Gumennik, Alexander Samarin.
It was a championship that became a disappointment in men’s singles skating. Only Mark Kondratyuk can (and should) be satisfied with how he managed to get together for the Russian championship again. It was in the last year that Mark, as they say, nouname, sensationally became the third on it.
Makar Ignatov, Alexander Samarin, Dmitry Aliev failed again … There are no more ways to retreat and justify. Boots that he did not have time to roll out, psychology, nerves – all this should not be related to men’s work during the qualifying start of the season.
Yes, we, of course, have long since said goodbye to the dreams of a personal medal at the main starts in this form, fought all the time only for licenses, so that there would be somewhere to shell the young. Russia has three quotas for the Games, thanks, by the way, to the joint efforts of the entire current trio going to the European Championship. Kolyada and Semenenko won quotas at the World Championship, and Kondratyuk confirmed them at the tournament in the fall. Could you then imagine what it confirms for yourself?

And in the men’s individual tournament for the Olympic Games, the competition will be sky-high. It is unlikely that Mikhail Kolyada, who managed to lose the Russian championship, will suddenly be ready for it. But there is an Olympic team tournament, and Russia should not get a real chance to win gold. And our singles are a real headache. That is their common name.
Mikhail Kolyada won the free program, which allowed him to rise from fifth place after the short program to second, but again this is not the level of Mikhail himself. Returning “White Crow” did not sound. Both did not take off.
Mark Kondratyuk “bombed” five ultra-si elements in the free skate (two quadruple salchows in the second half of the program). This was his finest hour. I would like to believe that only the first of the season. Previous speeches, however, did not particularly hint at him, but the ability to lay out all the trump cards at the most crucial moment is not the first time that makes us talk about Mark.
Evgeny Semenenko won the short program in St. Petersburg. But in the free program, there was a rare fall for him on a sheepskin coat in four turns, and then a “butterfly” on an axel. Andrei Mozalev showed resilience in an arbitrary, closing the failure in the short, after which he ended up in eighth place, jumped to the third final place. Why is it not Andrei going to Europe, but Eugene, who remained outside the podium?
The very principle of selection worked: the third numbers, like the substitutes, are included in the team on the recommendation of the coaching council, taking into account the stability of the results shown at the start of the season, the reliability of the performance of the elements of the highest complexity, the compliance of the technical equipment of the programs with the model requirements, as well as choreographic and psychological readiness. …
The FFKKR Executive Committee agreed with the coaching proposal: “Semenenko is a more experienced athlete and showed better results during the season than Mozalev.” So far, only the composition for the European Championship has been announced. The Olympic Games will choose their participants in terms of reliability after Tallinn.
