New Delhi: Opposing the bail plea of former Jawaharlal Nehru University student Omar Khalid, a Delhi Police lawyer on Friday compared the alleged conspiracy of the February 2020 riots to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad accused Omar Khalid of conspiring to hold a meeting and to monitor the protest site against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He said that secular protests were planned and trained to make demonstrations anywhere.
Opposing Umar Khalid’s bail application before Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, the prosecutor said, “Just before 9/11, all the people involved reached a certain place and took training. A month before that. They went to their respective places. The same thing has happened in this case. “
9/11 incident very similar in context: Delhi Police’s stance
Delhi Police further said, ‘9/11 incident is very similar in context. The man behind 9/11 never went to America. A conspiracy was hatched by holding a meeting in the militia. WhatsApp chats weren’t available at the time. We have documents today that he was part of the group. This is the basis for showing that violence was going to happen.
The Delhi Police lawyer further told the court that the 2020 protest was not about the CAA or the NRC but about embarrassing the government and taking steps to make headlines in the international media. On the last date of the hearing, the prosecutor told the court that all the protest sites were selected close to the mosques, but it was called secularism for one purpose.
