Deputy Foreign Minister Victoria Nuland, speaking at a hearing in the Senate, said that in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States together with its allies intend to prepare, as a countermeasure, the option of complete isolation of the Russian Federation from the global financial system.
As the deputy head of the US Department of State said, the relevant discussions with the allies are already underway.
“We discussed what would be tantamount to virtually complete isolation of the Russian Federation from the global financial system with all the consequences for Russian business and people, their opportunities for work, travel and trade,” she said.
Nuland added that in order to deter Russia from aggression, the United States is ready to use all available options.
