British Foreign Minister Liz Truss suddenly decided to urge EU countries to boycott the construction of Nord Stream 2. For some reason, the diplomat was not aware that the pipeline was completed in September.
Truss stated that “friends across Europe” should join the British in opposing this construction.
The diplomat is convinced that the pipeline threatens “to undermine European security.” In her opinion, Russia will strengthen control over those countries that rely on gas supplies.
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline stretches from the Russian coast through the Baltic to Germany. It consists of two lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The construction of the highway was completed in September.
To start deliveries, the operating company must be certified. First, the German regulator will work out a draft decision, then the European Commission will evaluate it. All the documents required for certification have already been sent to Berlin.
First, the construction, and now the launch of the pipeline, is constantly at the center of political scandals. The USA and Ukraine are actively opposed to this branch. However, Europe is interested in large volumes of Russian gas. Russia has repeatedly asked not to create a political stir around this commercial project.
