Kazakhstan : The manager of MK-Regions Gulnara Minkova, from whom there was no news for 4 days, got in touch. Everything is in order with her, all these days she and her husband were in a rented apartment located in the southern part of Almaty, not far from the highway to Medeo. Now Gulnara is trying to contact the Russian consulate. Communication was also restored with the editorial board of MK in Kazakhstan. As the publisher Sergey Aparin told us, our colleagues had to go through several difficult days. But, thank God, the editorial office was not smashed .
As Gulnara said, they arrived in Alma-Ata on the 4th: they were going to ski on Chimbulak. It was an ordinary holiday: people walked the streets with children, shops were open. Nothing, as they say, foreshadowed … We managed to see the city, change money. On the morning of January 5, we even got to the mountains: to Akbulak. And in the evening, they began to notice that something was wrong: the Internet was gone, there were interruptions in mobile communications.
At night we heard shots, but we thought they were New Year’s firecrackers. And in the morning it turned out that the television was also missing. They learned about what was happening in the city from each other. Colleagues from MK in Kazakhstan helped Gulnara and her husband get food, since only small shops were open, which contained only cereals and cans. No bread, no meat, no milk …
For two days, according to Guli, they spent “like seals” – they got up, had breakfast, looked out the window, went to bed again. Sometimes we walked down the street. It was pretty calm in their area. The thugs chose the central streets with banks and shops. The outskirts were of little interest to them. TV channels appeared yesterday. Mobile communication has started working today. However, only local. Russian numbers in Alma-Ata do not work. So is the internet. Gulya managed to contact the Russian consulate, and now she and her husband are solving the problem of returning home.
