Year of the Tiger Wars: On the eve of the New Year, there is no shortage of astrological forecasts. What will the Steel Tiger year be like? Perhaps a short historical excursion will help answer this question and draw some analogies. Let’s remember what happened in the twin years of 2022 in the 12-year astrological cycle.
We will not go deep into the centuries. Take the Tiger years of recent centuries.
So, the year is 1854. The beginning of the Crimean War. It was provoked by Great Britain, setting the weakening Ottoman Empire against Russia, taking France as allies and neutralizing Austria. The war was preceded by an anti-Russian campaign of unprecedented power and anger in European newspapers and magazines. Well, something like this now.
It took the coalition two years to take Sevastopol. The heroism of the defenders could not compensate for the industrial and military-technical backwardness of the Nikolaev empire. The results of the war for Russia could have been much worse. But thanks to Gorchakov’s skillful diplomacy, losses were minimized.
After two 12-year cycles, in 1878 (the year of the Tiger), Russia took revenge in the next Russian-Turkish war against the Ottoman Porte, liberating Bulgaria from centuries-old Turkish rule. True, in the long term, this merit of Russia did little. Bulgaria was part of the anti-Russian coalitions in two world wars. Even today it is a full member of the NATO military bloc. Well, God be the judge of the “brothers”.
1914th. The beginning of the First World Won also fell on the Year of the Tiger. Nicholas II did not have enough statesmanship to avoid this scourge. As some historians believe, we were drawn into an unnecessary war by Britain, which still does not stop shitting on us.
1938th. World War II is believed to have started on September 1, 1939. But many are sure that the countdown was given by the tragedy of Czechoslovakia, which in 1938 ordered to live a long time. Germany, Poland and Hungary have torn this country apart. A pro-fascist Slovakia and the German protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia emerged.
Soviet Russia was ready to come to the aid of Czechoslovakia, but Poland, which was then passionately friends with the Third Reich, refused to let our troops pass through its territory. Well, the way Paris and London behaved at that time is forever branded in history with the label “Munich Agreement”. In 1945, the Red Army liberated Prague. But with gratitude, it did not work out in this case either. Today the Czech Republic is one of two countries that the Russian Foreign Ministry has called unfriendly. The second country is the United States.
1950th. Year of the beginning of the Korean War. In fact, then the Korean North and South were not at war. It was a covert clash between the United States and the Soviet Union and China. The war ended in a draw, mothballing the confrontation for decades. The United States did not go to waste, having received numerous bases on the territory of South Korea.
1962nd. There was no war that year. But it could very well have happened. Moreover, the world and nuclear. This is the year of the Cuban missile crisis. Many believe that it was caused by the appearance of Soviet missiles on Freedom Island. But this is not the case. Initially, the United States deployed nuclear ballistic missiles in Turkey. In response, the USSR carried out Operation Anadyr and secretly deployed a couple of missile divisions to Cuba. As a result, the world was on the brink of a nuclear war. The nuclear forces of the USSR and the United States were ready for several weeks to strike the enemy.
But Kennedy and Khrushchev had the common sense to stop the escalation. We removed our missiles from Cuba and the United States from Turkey.
Today, many people, not without reason, compare the dispute between Russia and the United States and NATO with the Cuban missile crisis. Now Russia fears the appearance of American missiles on the territory of Ukraine, which is eager to join NATO. How this crisis will end – so far we can only guess. As well as about whether the current leaders have enough wisdom.
The 1974th year in military history was marked by the beginning of a decisive offensive by the forces of North Vietnam to the South. The following year, 1975, the long Vietnam War of the United States ended ingloriously.
1986 has remained in history as the year of the Chernobyl disaster.
In military terms, 2010 was perhaps the most peaceful year. That year, Russia and the United States entered into an agreement on strategic offensive weapons START III. The document was signed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and US President Barack Obama.
It remains to wait and find out how the next astrological year of the Tiger – 2022 – will remain in history. Experience shows that not everything depends on the location of the stars. It is much more important that the state is strong and the leadership is wise. The weak are always unlucky.
