Yechury requested the President to remove the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Dec 17: Communist Party of India (CPI-M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury today slammed Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal for making a statement against the Constitution of India. He has demanded immediate removal of President Ram Nath Kavand from his post.

In a letter to the President on Thursday, Mr Yechury claimed that Justice Mithal had apologized for calling the inclusion of the words “secular” and “socialist” in the preamble to the Indian Constitution “compressing” the country’s spiritual image. Committed a crimeThe CPI (M) leader claimed that Justice Mithal had made the remarks at a function organized by the All India Advocates Council affiliated to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Singh on December 5. The words “secular” and “socialist” were included in the preamble. Pointing to it, the Justice allegedly said that sometimes we bring amendments because of our stubbornness.The CPI (M) leader said that the statements made by the Chief Justice at the seminar were widely disseminated in the media.Yechury, who has been a member of the Rajya Sabha several times, said that the conduct of Chief Justice Mithal was a violation of the oath he had taken and against the Constitution of India. Therefore, in order to maintain the sanctity of the Constitution, he should be removed from office immediately.
